DVD-D is a DVD format you probably haven't heard of.
Since you're hearing of it now, you would be curious as to its use.
Can you use it to store movies?
How is it different from other DVD formats?
Can it easily be bought at retail stores.
Well, let's take a look at the little-known DVD-D (Disposable).
DVD-D is a type of disc that you could play for a limited time only. In other words, you can play it for a specified number of hours only, from the time you open the disc sleeve.
But then you can open the sleeve any time you want from the moment you receive it. You can open it a week, a month or a year from the date you receive it.
For that reason, it is also known as self-destructing DVD and can usually be used for up to 48 hours from the time the sleeve is opened.
Premium discs, however, are allowed a longer time.
Opening the sleeve sets off a chemical process whereby the disc would be rendered unusable after the specified number of hours.
This format is popularly used by rental outlets specialising in movies, games and software.
There's no limitation in terms of DVD experience when it comes to playing a DVD-D. It's just like playing DVD movie. You get digital quality video and sound and you have a wide choice of languages to choose from, not to mention interactive features.
That means you could play DVD-D off any commercial DVD player or computer DVD drive.
