What’s the Difference Between DVD-RAM and DVD+/-RW?

DVD-RAM is essentially a random access disc. So, it functions like a hard disk.

Instant Data Access
Since it shares the characteristic of a hard disk, it is able to access  stored data much faster than other DVD formats. In fact  access is almost instant. At the time of writing, data transfer rate of DVD-RAM is 22.16Mbps.

Much More Versatile
The other significant difference is it is much more `versatile’ than other competitor formats. With DVD-RAM you could rewrite the disc up to 100, 000 times compared to 1000 times for DVD+/-RW.

Built-In Error Correction

DVD-RAM also comes with a built-in sophisticated EEC error correction system which makes it ideal for use with data applications. When data is transferred from a source to a receiver, errors are bound to occur. With the system such errors are rectified. Thus DVD-RAM becomes a reliable medium for `accurate’ data reception.
